The West Midlands is located in the heart of England and has a tremendous amount of interesting places to visit. Furthermore, most of these destinations make the perfect day trip or weekend vacation, and are very reasonably priced. For animal lovers, there is the wonderful and entertaining Dudley Zoo. For those into nature, you can take a trip to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses. Finally, if some fine architecture and religion interest you, try a trip to the famous Coventry Cathedral. These trips provide something for every taste, and they are all fabulous and interesting destinations.

If you are a true animal lover in search of a unique viewing experience, head to Dudley Zoo. This zoo is the home to hundreds of different animals, and it is set on the grounds of an eleventh century castle. The exhibits include lemurs and monkeys, along with a large colony of Humboldt penguins. If you are more interested in seeing the apex predators of the wild, there are three lions in residence as well as an array of falcons and eagles. However, there are many more interesting animals at the zoo, and every day the zookeepers put on daily activities where you can watch them feed giraffes, talk about sea lions, or even meet and pet farm animals.

If beautiful scenes of nature are more to your liking, you can always go see the multitude of plants at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses. The exhibits have been in place since 1832 and span over 15 acres of property. Included in the modest price of admission you will get access to all the ponds and walkways of the gardens, which house over 7,000 species of plants. Additionally, you will be able to tour the glasshouses which contain plants from the tropics, Mediterranean zones, and arid desert zones of the world.

Finally, if you are interested in some beautiful architecture and a religious experience you can head to Coventry Cathedral. The cathedral has been standing for over 1,000 years and has been heralded as a place for spiritual renewal. Even after being nearly leveled by a bombing in 1940, the Cathedral was revitalized and has been providing a home for those seeking worship. Accordingly, visitors may even visit some of the old ruins near the impressive newer cathedral.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a great place to visit for a day trip or short weekend getaway, the West Midlands has a lot to offer you. No matter if you are interested in seeing many species of animals, getting away to enjoy the smell of flowers in a vast garden, or exploring a significant religious house of worship, there is a niche for you. Moreover, since the price of admission is so reasonable you will be able to have a great day without worrying about the high prices associated with most entertainment.
